Here are disability related concerns for which DRCT may be able to provide individual advocacy or legal representation, subject to the availability of resources.
Abuse or neglect of a person with a disability
People with disabilities facing involuntary medication proceedings
Voting accessibility
Students with IEPs who are ages 14 to 22 and want help with transition planning
Students in college, university, or post-secondary education settings who are denied reasonable accommodations
Students with disabilities who are at risk of being pushed out of their neighborhood school as a result of behavior relating to their disability
Students with disabilities with education concerns through Disability Rights Connecticut’s new statewide special education clinic
People with disabilities applying for or receiving vocational rehabilitation services from the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS) or Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind (BESB)
People with disabilities who need timely access to medically necessary medical and mental health care that is free from discriminatory limitations and restrictions on access to care
People with communication disabilities who are denied effective communication in healthcare settings
People with disabilities who need timely access to wheelchairs, communication devices and other assistive technology and durable medical equipment that they need to live and participate in the community
People with disabilities who are transitioning or released from institutional settings to the community
People with disabilities who need reasonable modifications/accommodations in housing
If you are asking for an attorney or advocate for any of the following issues, please know we do not handle these cases.
Eviction, applying for or appealing denial of a housing voucher, finding affordable and accessible housing
Obtaining, changing or removing a guardian or conservator
Social Security Administration benefits like SSI or SSDI applications, denials, or overpayment
Worker’s compensation
Family cases like divorce or custody

Bankruptcy
Financial assistance and benefits, like food assistance, cash assistance, housing assistance applications, denials, or appeals
